Some people do not realize that the thing that is hindering their success is their own negative thinking. The surprising thing is that this is actually very good news. Why? Because since the thing hindering you is your own thoughts, you have complete power to change it. You can stop negative thinking and have a positive impact on your life.
If it were an outside influence, you would be less in control of the situation. Since negative thinking is something then you can take a hold of and change, that means that you have the power to change the outcome of a variety of situations in your life.
Here are some tips for getting started on your quest to stop negative thinking.
Be Around Positive People
Being around negative people can easily turn you into a negative thinker. Even if you try with all of your might not to let others affect you, if you are always listening to whining, complaining and other negative influences, there is a good chance it is going to impact your own thinking.
Surround yourself with as many positive people as you can. The same way that a negative person can impact you, so can a positive one. When you are hearing a steady stream of positivity, it will make it that much easier to keep your own thoughts positive.
Of course, there will be many times when you will have no choice but to be around some negative thinkers. When this happens, you need to make the decision to be the one in control. When the negative person says something negative, you need to say something positive. Choose not to let the negative thinker be the one with the power.
Take Control of Your Thoughts
It seems that some people think that they are at the mercy of their thoughts. A negative thought creeps in and they think they are obligated to accept it. The truth is that pretty much everyone has negative thoughts. But you have a choice about what to do with those thoughts.
While a negative person would dwell on them, talk about them and allow them to bring on additional negative thoughts, a positive person is going to take control of those thoughts.
As soon as a negative thought enters your mind, grab it and replace it immediately with a positive thought. For example, if you think “This project is never going to be finished by the deadline” simply replace that thought with “I’ve got my work cut out for me, but I know if I apply myself, I can finish this project on time.”
You have to be in control of your thinking otherwise the negative thoughts are likely to take over.
Use Positive Words
Another way to stop negative thinking is by using positive words. Don’t say “I might be able to finish this.” Instead say “I will be able to finish this.”
Also, even if you have a negative thought, choose not to give it a voice. Don’t express your negative thinking verbally. Doing so just gives the thoughts more power. Instead, use the tip above to replace the negative thoughts with positive ones. Then, speak about your new positive thoughts instead.
You owe it to yourself to stop negative thinking. You can become someone who is more pleasant to be around and who more easily accomplishes the things that are important. All by simply taking control of your own thoughts.
