For many people, the one thing standing in the way of them achieving their goals is a lack of self confidence. There are plenty of books and seminars about how to build self confidence. Some are full of valuable ideas. Others are a waste of time and money.
The bottom line is that you have to find ways to learn to believe in yourself and in your ability to do whatever you set your mind to do.
Here are some tips to help you build self confidence and get one step closer to achieving your goals.
You ARE Successful
You might not have yet achieved all of your goals, but that doesn’t mean you are not successful in some way. Some people focus only on what they have NOT achieved, rather than on what they HAVE achieved. That is a perfect formula for low self-esteem as you will always be focusing on the negative.
Make a list of your accomplishments, however small they may seem. By giving yourself credit for the things you have already done well, you will be setting yourself up for future successes.
Know What You Believe
It would be hard for someone to think that they were a good person if they did not have some set morals and values. What the morals and values are will, of course, be different for each person.
Some will be very liberal and others more conservative. The point is that you’ve got to know what it is you believe so that you’ll know if you’re in line with your own values.
What do you think is right and wrong? If you’ve never really thought about it, then now is the time. What do you think it means to be a good person? Once you have decided the answers to these and other similar questions, you can begin to make choices that are, in your mind, right.
Know What You Want
You cannot build self confidence by achieving goals if you do not have clearly defined objectives. Figure out what, exactly, you want. Then set milestones that will help you achieve those goals.
As you work diligently towards your goals, and are able to check off milestone achievements along the way, you’ll learn to have confidence in your abilities.
Without those clearly defined objectives, however, it is nearly impossible to set meaningful milestones and build confidence in this way.
Look in the Mirror
Do you like what you see? Do you like the way you dress? Do you take the time to do your hair and make sure that you look your best? If not, these are things that you have control over and can change.
Dress in a way that makes you feel good about yourself when you walk out the door. Even if your self-esteem is so low right now that you don’t feel like you’re worth it, dress as though you believe in your own worth.
Dressing in a way that makes you feel good about yourself will boost your self confidence. That will have an impact on how other people interact with you, which will boost your confidence even more.
Regular exercise offers a whole myriad of benefits. In addition to weight loss, you will have more energy, better posture and improved discipline. If you do not already work out regularly, begin this week as another measure to help you improve your self-esteem.
The simple steps above are just a few of the many ways to build self confidence. Implement them today, and your self-esteem can begin climbing and working on your side to help you achieve your goals.
